Class Description: The in/visible self

We will access the dance of contact improvisation through various opening pathways. First, tuning into the subtle body will be introduced through the practice of authentic movement in pairs and groups, led by the diad of the mover with closed eyes and their observing witness. Then, we will work with touch. The quality of touch and the intention behind it will be refined by directing the attention of the toucher, while both the receiver and the giver follow their own experiences. In this process, the dialogue of giving and receiving touch moves us out of a state of rest, allowing partners to find their dance in following each other's movements and impulses.
Our practices will be guided by an inquisitive focus inward, on our own bodies, and outward, on our partner's body and the environment, as well as by support.
